Virtual Christmas Quiz Raises Much Needed Funds

Friday 11th December saw Sarum Rotary Club hosting a Virtual Christmas Quiz to raise some much needed funds, with Jonathan The Jester acting as Quiz Master.

Sixteen teams from all over the country battled it out to be crowned the intellectual champions and, in doing so, were able to raise a total of £446.67 for the Club.

At the end of the quiz, an auction was held by Simon of Simon Ward Photography with the proceeds going to Julia’s House Childrens’ Hospices. This raised £157.50 for the charity.

Simon has recently been running the “Doorstep Snaps” project to raise funds for both Julia’s House and the Stars Appeal at Salisbury District Hospital. This sees Simon taking socially-distanced pictures of people, their family or household on their doorstep in return for a donation to either of the two charities.

Commenting on the Virtual Christmas Quiz, Sarum Rotary Club’s Media Co-ordinator, Andrew Longland, said “It’s been a difficult year for so many charities with much of their funding usually coming from events and activities that have not been able to take place in 2020. Sarum Rotary was in the same position, having to cancel various events that would normally be part of our annual calendar, including the Five Rivers Festival. We were fortunate enough to be able to run the Corporate Quiz just before the first lockdown and the Clarendon Marathon in October, but there’s been no other real opportunities to raise money for the causes that we work with. Therefore, we were very pleased to be able to help Simon raise a little more for Julia’s House, as well as some additional funds for the Club itself, through the Virtual Christmas Quiz. I’d like to thank all the teams that took part.”
