Sarum Rotary to Award Full Scholarship to a Young Athlete

Sarum Rotary Club is proud to announce that it is awarding a full scholarship (at just under £1,000) for at least one young local athlete to join The True Athlete Project‘s prestigious global mentoring programme.

This programme won the World Olympians’ Association Partnership Award in 2018, and matches committed, aspiring athletes aged 15-24 with world-class champions in a year-long, nurturing relationship. The experience the winner(s) will receive should be priceless. Click here to view a brochure giving more details of the programme.

We are inviting local sports clubs, schools and colleges to nominate an athlete (or multiple athletes), able-bodied or less able, who you think would benefit from this year of support. All the athletes need to do is to submit a simple application form by 31st October 2020 using the link below:

Please ensure that you mention on your application that you have been made aware of the opportunity through Sarum Rotary Club.

We will fund the place of one accepted candidate (or more if further sponsorship can be obtained). If multiple candidates are accepted, then The True Athlete Project has some additional limited scholarship funds to help reduce costs for those who would struggle to afford the whole amount.

Programme Timeline:

31st October 2020: Application deadline.

November 2020: Interviews take place.

December 2020: Applicants are notified of the result, and who their mentor will be.

January 2021: Mentoring relationship begins. Mentees and mentors meet approximately every 2 weeks for 60-90minutes via Zoom, for one year. In-person meetings are also possible. Mentees also receive several online workshops, including a 6-week “In the Zone: Mindfulness for Athletes” class.

Criteria for Acceptance:

Mentees should be aged 15-24, committed to their overall personal and athletic growth through sport, open to TAP’s holistic approach, and able to commit to the year-long programme. There is no particular ranking/standard cut-off.
